Colts Neck Shops... A group of retailers in Colts Neck, NJ are ready to spread the word
about The 3/50 Project.

Last March Cinda Baxter a retail consultant and former retailer had an idea about how to raise awareness on the plight of the nation’s brick and mortar businesses. After hearing multiple reports on various media outlets, where commentators advised the American public to stop spending except for essentials, Ms. Baxter was outraged. What about the Mom and Pop stores? Where does that leave the back bone of our economy?

So Ms. Baxter took action! She created and designed The 3/50 Project Blog. Within weeks she had 7500 supporters. So it became a website and a grassroots movement was born. Today
The 3/50 Project has thousands and thousands of supporters and is represented in all 50 states.

What is The 3/50 Project?

Along with spreading the word to the American public Ms. Baxter’s website gives brick and mortar businesses the tools to
help spread the word. The website: The350Project.net is full
of links, articles and media ready to print.

The following is taken from the flyer that is down loadable for businesses to pass on and best describes the project.

Think about 3 independently owned businesses you would miss the most if they were gone. Stop in and say hello. Pick up a little something that will make someone smile. Your contribution is what keeps those businesses around.

50

If just half of the employed U.S. population spent $50. each month in independently owned businesses their purchases would generate more than $42.6 billion in revenue. Imagine the positive impact if ¾ of the employed population did that

68

For every $100 spent in independently owned stores $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures. If you spend that in a national chain only $43 stays local. Spend it online and nothing comes home

Mulberry Market a gift and lifestyle shop in Colts Neck, NJ has taken on the task of spreading The 3/50 Project message, throughout Colts Neck and surrounding towns.

Ann Hager, owner of Mulberry Market invited each brick and mortar business in Colts Neck to team up with her to help spread the word.

At a kick off breakfast local business owners gathered and discussed the project along with ideas on how to promote The 3/50 Project and educate the public.
One message was clear, consumers needed to be educated on how important their business is for brick and mortar’s to stay in business. “We are all in the together” and “We need you to be successful” are the common themes that they decided to promote

Signs for each participating business showing The 3/50 Project logo hang proudly in each of the participates windows, flyers are given out to customers and each business explains the idea to clients.

Most people when the campaign is explained to them have the same “aahh haa” moment “Oh, I never thought of that” or “Ok, I will try and make more of an effort so spread my dollars around”

The message is not for consumers to stop spending in big box stores and chains, but to remember their neighbors and help grow the local economy.

Businesses will post events and sales on this blog, as well as things that interest the group.

A series of events have been planned to spotlight The 3/50 Project in Colts Neck. On June 5th, at the Olde Towne Colts Neck Day, participating members will host a booth and spread the word to the community. The message” we need you, we are all in this together”
